GV II

Almshouses, 1815. Squared dressed stone, stone slate roof. One storey. 11 bay
symmetrical composition, alternating doors of six raised and fielded panels
with windows in plain stone surrounds, sashes with all glazing bars. Rusticated
quoins to ends and the central three bays, which are pedimented. The pediment
carries an oval cartouche inscribed "1815. These Almshouses for five poor
women were erected and endowed pursuant to the desire of Joseph Smith late
of the City of LONDON Banker, a native of this parish out of the residuary
estate of Rachel Smith his widow". Six stacks.
