Peach House. 1854 (Dated etched on glass pane on E side).
Attributed to Joseph Paxton. Long, narrow glasshouse, about 2
metres wide by 27 metres long. Semicircular barrel roof with
ribbed glass Panes, 18 bays, framed by cast iron arches. The
side elevations have 4-light Panels per bay with wooden vertical
glazing bars. The lower quarter of each bay has a ventilator and
these are attached to a sinqle iron opening mechanism with a
lever handle at each end. Similar mechanism operates ventilators
on top of roof. Still used to grow peaches.
