C16. Timber framed house, the square panels largely filled with old herring-bone
brickwork; one storey plus attic with 2 storey gabled cross wings; 3 later
wood casement windows; further projecting wing to right; four shafted
central brick stack set diagonally and similar stack at rear of left-hand
wing; old nail studded oak entrance door with early iron strap-hinges.
The rear and sides of the house are of similar character. Although the
windows are of mixed kinds, the house is otherwise very unaltered. Interior
again very little altered with contemporary doors, fine C17 well staircase
with massive newels with tops and pendants, turned balusters and square
landings. One room on 1st floor (left front). has painting in oils of
Abraham offering Isaac as a sacrifice, probably circa 1700. On the wall
of the stairs is an inscription in raised plaster letters "W.W.: G.M.:R.P.D:M.B.;168
Very good example of its kind.
