Public house. Mid-late C18, altered and extended C19 and C20. Dressed limestone
and ironstone in bands, slate roof, brick end stacks. 2-unit plan. 2-storeys and
attic; 3-window range. Central 6-panel, part-glazed door with pegged wood
surround, wood lintel and C19 gabled hood on curved brackets. 2-light casement
windows to ground and 1st floors with stop-chamfered wood lintels. Coursed
rubble plinth with chamfered ironstone coping, ironstone quoins, moulded wood
eaves cornice and stone-coped gables with kneelers. Small leaded 1-light window
above 1st floor centre window breaks line of eaves cornice. 2-storey extension
to right and to rear. Interior: stop-chamfered spine beams and open fireplace
with cambered stop-chamfered bressumer, smoke cupboard and bread oven. First
recorded licence granted 1739 at the George Inn, Northampton, to Robert Holt.
