Pair of houses. No.106 the original building, c1806. No.108
added as servants' accommodation, c1850. Brick with slate
roof.
2 storeys, 3-window range, the houses of unequal size. Central
entrance to No.106, the door with 8 fielded octagonal panels
and traceried fanlight in stone architrave. Entrance to left
in No.108. Tripartite sashes to ground floor, sash windows
without glazing bars above, all windows probably of c1850.
Moulded stone eaves cornice.
INTERIOR: No.106 retains its original interior, with tightly
curved staircase with moulded tread-ends, slender turned
balusters and swept rail, lit by full-height round-arched
window with panelled rebates and reeded architrave to rear.
Niche in wall to staircase, with original built-in cupboard.
Acanthus plasterwork frieze over stairway. Delicate Adam-style
plasterwork to drawing room ceiling, forming garlanded panels
with central rosette, and acanthus frieze. Internal doorways
all in reeded architraves with rosettes, the panelled doors
retaining their original door furniture, with delicately
worked handles and finger plates in brass and wood.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: short length of original cast-iron
railing adjoins No.108. The original house is said to have
been built by a silk manufacturer, who also built the adjacent
weavers' houses, Nos 100-104 Buxton Road (qv).
