Dewcombe Farmhouse

Farmhouse, now disused. Early C17 with dated extension of 1665, partly re-roofed
c.1900 with minor later addition and alterations. Roughcast slate-stone; slate
roof. In 2 sections, lower addition attached to right. 2 storeys. Main range
has three C19 casements directly below eaves and one to either side of roughly
central boarded door under lean-to to hood. Lower range has two C19 casements
on first floor and one to right of boarded door to left. Integral end stacks to
left of main range and to right of lower range, latter with semi-circular cloam
oven projection to base, both with red brick shafts. Lean-to staircase projection
to rear of main range has possible garderobe in angle with back wall on first floor.
Interior: Left ground-floor room of main range has 2 sawn off cross beams with
chamfered joist ends surviving.Wooden window seat to front left window. Similar
cross beams and joists to right room which has door leading to lower section.
Semi-spiral staircase in lean-to projection at rear of left room. Truncated collar
truss roof visible in roof space. Lower section has chamfered spine beam and joists
with wide floor boards exposed above. C19 cast-iron range by J Hoskin of Launceston.
Staircase has right-angled turn. Date "1665" superscribed on plaster of stack on
first floor. Collar truss roof. Both sections have plant doors, some with strap
hinges.
