House. Probably early C17, re-modelled late C17 with rear
rebuilt early C19. Rendered and colourwashed brick to facade
over timber-frame, gault brick rear. Some clunch used in
interior of walls. Plain tiled roofs, pantiled to rear.
2 storeys and dormer attic in 7 bays. Facade with centre 3
bays recessed, outer bays under gables. Symmetrical. Central
6-panelled and fielded door under late C18 reticulated fret
overlight. Open segmental hood stands on double consoles
supported by engaged fluted columns. To left of elevation is a
flush 6-panelled door within plain reveals, probably replacing
a window. Fenestration of unhorned sashes set within flush
frames and exposed boxes and with 6/6 glazing bars. Projecting
cornice below parapet. The parapet gables each have a sash as
before, although the left (north) one is a replacement.
Between them is one gabled dormer in the gabled roof (C20
two-light casement). Internal gable-end stack south and 2
ridge stacks. 2 rear projections under hipped pantile roofs
each of 2 bays.
INTERIOR: entrance hall with very late C17 open-string
staircase with 2 twisted balusters to each tread and 4 grouped
balusters as newels. Moulded ramped handrail. Large-frame dado
panelling. Balustrade returns at first floor to form balcony.
Ground-floor rear room with early C17 small-frame panelling.
Main timber frame with jowled principal studs, but much
removed. 2 south bays retain arched braces to chamfered tie
beams.
