Yew Tree House

Farmhouse, now house. c.1800, extended c.1900, and altered.
Handmade brown brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings
and slate roof. Double-depth plan plus added kitchen wing to
rear. Two storeys and attic, 2 windows, almost symmetrical; 2
large windows on each floor, offset slightly left of centre,
all with raised sills and wedge lintels and now with 20-pane
top-hung casements. Gable chimneys, that to the left extruded.
The right-hand gable wall has a round-headed doorway with an
open-pedimented wooden architrave including fluted pilasters
and dentilled lintel, and a fanlight with delicate radiating
tracery. INTERIOR: lateral entrance hall with semi-elliptical
archway, leading to a doglegged staircase with open string,
scrolled brackets, stick balusters and a mahogany handrail
wreathed at the foot. Forms group with No.172 opposite (q.v.).
