Description

TQ 2880 SW CITY OF WESTMINSTER CURZON STREET, W1
79/49
24.2.58 NO. 18 (Unitag
House)

G.V. II

Terraced town house. c.1750-60. Darkened brick, slate roof, 4 storeys,
basement and dormered mansard. 3 windows wide. Broad semicircular
arched entrance to left with double panelled doors and stucco flanking
pilaster strips with palmette frieze cornice-doorhead beneath
patterned radial fanlight. Recessed sashes, no glazing bars, under
flat gauged arches. Later, mid C.19, rectangular bay window to centre
of 1st floor. Bracketed stone cornice over 2nd floor. Parapet with
coping. Wrought iron area railings with flambé torch finials.
Interior considerably altered and original staircase removed but
retains entrance hall with ceiling composed of shallow flattened domes
of Soanic type (Soane is recorded as having worked at No. 19 but no
features appear to survive there and this hall is much closer to his
style, so there may have been a renumbering); rear room on ground
floor has bowed end and palmette and anthemion frieze etc.
