Former house, now shop and offices with C15 undercroft. Shop and
offices:- late C16/early C17 street range remodelled and heightened
in the C18. Later C18 parallel rear range and long block at right-
angles. Red brick and black pantile roof 3 storeys plus cellar to
rear range. 4 bays to street range. Fine C19 shopfront with off-centre
door that reflects the C18 entry arrangement. Sash windows with
glazing bars and rubbed brick flat arches at first floor and bottom-
hung casements with glazing bars at 2nd floor. Block modillion cornice.
Interesting interior arrangement with open-well stair at rear, right-
hand side having turned balusters and carved brackets. This leads to
a first floor back room with very find C18 panelling over door and
mantel carving and plaster ceiling. Undercroft:- Brick. 2 irregular
bays at right-angles to the street line. Single-order diagonal ribs
with additional radiating ribs to accommodate door and window openings.
Wall arches and lighting niches in the south bay. The building is
graded II* for the undercroft with forms part of an important group
within the City Walls and for the C18 carving and plasterwork.
