Hall, 1579 with 1676 rear stair wing. Coursed rubble with quoins and plinth;
rendered (front colour washed). Steeply pitched graduated slate roof has stone
copings to all 3 gables (stair wing has kneelers); stone mid and end chimneys,
all stepped and corniced (embattled cornice to east end). 2-storey, 4-bay front
has ground floor openings under continuous hoodmould (carried round across rear)
arranged as follows: Fire window; 5-light window; original studded plank door
in architrave with paired semicircular head; 4-light window; 3-light window;
inserted C19 plank door. Windows to 1st floor similar but no fire window; both
right-hand windows are 3-light. A moulded surround above the main door contains
a panel with coat-of-arms, initials, and date I.S. & A.S. 1579; similar blank
panel between lst floor 3-light windows. Original 2-and 3-light windows to west
gable and rear (some blocked); stair wing has similar windows and, on east side,
initialled and dated lintel (R. & E.D. 1676) to segmentally-headed door. All
original multi-light windows have chamfered surrounds, mullions, and
hoodmoulds. See R.C.H.M. for details of internal features. Threshing barn/byre
to west incorporates l-bay C19 extension to house. 1835 of coursed, squared
rubble under shallower-pitched, graduated slate roof. 3 byre doors and one
wagon door (with dated inscription above), all with imposts and keystones to
segmental heads; 3 windows to ground floor and 1 to upper, all unglazed in stone
surrounds. Barn extension under same roof included, but attached C20
outbuildings not included.
