Mansion, now used as training centre. Dated 1911 on rainwater heads. By
Detmar Blow and Billerey for Frederick Denny. Thin pale brick, hand-made
and imported from Holland, some stone dressings, tiled roof, tall brick
chimneys with entablature tops. Jacobethan manor house. 2 storeys and
attic, 5 bays. Brick plinth, moulded brick entablatures at first and
second floor levels, outer and centre bays gabled. Stone mullion and
transom windows, 3-light in outer bays, 4-light in bays 2 and 4, 2-light
to centre over porch, bays 2 and 4 have 3-light windows in hipped dormers.
Elongated oval windows to first floor between outer bays, that to left blind,
projecting 2-storey porch to centre has stone Doric pilasters and triglyph
entablature to ground floor, Corinthian pilasters, entablature and pediment
to first floor. Entry has round arch with ornamental block motifs. On garden
side outer bays have 2-storey semi-octagonal bay windows. Central stone
doorcase of Doric columns, triglyph blocks and open pediment with carved
swags. Interior has panelling and fireplaces in matching style.
Lower 2-storey service wing to left has chimneys with square shafts set
diagonally. Attached stable ranges around courtyard infront of service wing
are of one storey, with thatched roofs, and 2-light stone mullion windows.
N.W. range with tiled roof now contains 2 dwellings. Remainder of forecourt
is enclosed by wall of similar brick with tiled coping. Pair of square plan
brick gate piers flanking entry on N.E. side have round arched niches, stone
benches and stone caps with segmental pediments.
