9/2 BROOK HOUSE FARMHOUSE

Late C16 or early C17 farmhouse with a parallel range including a staircase hall
added to the west c 1800. In c 1840 a wing to the south-west was built. Two
storeys. The earliest building is timber-framed with a rough-cast render and plain
tiled roof. C19 brick ridge stack. Four first floor hung sash windows with
glazing bars in west facing elevation with 3 similar ground floor windows and
half-glazed garden door. A verandah to the north and east has a wooden boarded and
plain tiled roof supported on bracketed wooden posts. C19 wing facing south of
rendered brick has a shallow, hipped slate roof with end stacks. Eaves cornice
has paired modillions. Three first floor recessed hung sash windows with glazing
bars, one horizontal sliding sash and one casement window flank a closed porch.
The interior has an inglenook hearth, some exposed ceiling beams and a very fine
canted open string staircase with slender twisted balusters.
