House. 1665 on kneeler; exterior largely rebuilt and roof and frame raised
in 1964. Cruck frame encased in coursed rubble sandstone with pantile roof
and brick stacks. 3-cell hearth-passage plan with outshut. 2-storey,
4-window front. C20 door at centre right, and C20 square lattice lights
with concrete sills and lintels throughout. Coped gables and shaped
kneelers at 2 levels. Lower kneelers are original and incorporate carved
stone heads. Lower kneeler to left is dated. End and right-of-centre
stacks. Interior: 2 pairs of full crucks with saddle apexes survive, with
studding intact between the 2 first-floor rooms on the left. On ground
floor the hearth beam and chamfered spine beams, one with run-out stops,
survive. Most original joists, some chamfered, have been retained. Ground-
floor studding has been reused. E Mercer, English Vernacular Houses, 1975;
