Shown on O.S. maps as Lock's Hunstone Farmhouse.
Probably early to mid C17, with late C19 and early C20 alterations and additions.
Rendered, over stone rubble to ground floor and cob above. Gable-ended corrugated-
asbestos roof (formerly thatched and slated) C19 lean-to addition of uncoursed stone
rubble with scantle-slate roof. C17 dressed stone square stack with offsets and
weatherings. Rendered C20 brick stack to right.
Plan and development: C17 three-room plan, facing south-east. Consisting of
principal room to left, small room to centre with passage behind and room to right
(present kitchen). Axial stack between left-hand and central rooms and integral end
stack to right-hand room. Entrance at right-hand end of left-hand room, with C20
porch. C19 lean-to addition at rear of left-hand end. Roof over right-hand end
rebuilt with lower pitch and stack rebuilt, probably in the late C19. Probably C20
lean-to additions to right and to rear of right-hand end. The owner reports
(September 1987) that the house formerly extended further to the left. Two storeys,
with one-storey lean-to additions.
Exterior: Asymmetrically-fenestrated front; late C19 or early C20 two- and 3-light
wooden casements, 4 to first floor and 3 to ground floor. Probably early C20 half-
glazed door between first and second windows from left, with C20 rendered lean-to
porch. Lean-to addition at rear of left-hand part C19 has 2-light leaded wooden
casement to right with chamfered frame and mullion, and C19 two- and 3-light wooden
casements to left, all with wooden lintels.
Interior: Left-hand ground-floor room has C17 deep-chamfered cross beam and C17 dado
panelling on left-hand end wall, with moulded top rail. Dog-leg staircase rising
from central room. Open fireplace in right-hand ground-floor room (kitchen) has
chamfered wooden lintel with stepped runout stops. First-floor rooms and roofspace
not inspected.
