2 Houses. Dated 1896 in left-hand gable. Red brick with some gauged window
heads, planted timbers and shaped tile hanging. Tile roof. Irregular plan.
2 storeys and attic. Large gabled dormer off-centre to right with arched
window and decorated barge boards, dormer off-centre to left with central
gable, and semi dormer off-centre to left with 6-light casement and swan
necked pediment. Main elements include projecting gabled wing off-centre to
left with mullioned and transomed window on each floor. Central timber
porch with French casements behind and balcony above. Projecting gabled
porch off-centre to right with 4-light first floor window with arch over
centre 2-lights, and door with circular glazed panel set back beneath.
Octagonal corner turret to right with mullioned and transomed windows on
each floor and separate pyramidal roof with finial. Wing set back to left
with ground floor circular window and hoodmould, and door with circular
glazed panel. This is one of a group of houses sometimes known as 'The
Seven Deadly Sins'. Included for group value. B.O.E, Berks, p.192;
