Description

SK 80 SE MANTON STOCKS HILL (West Side)

4/86 Garden Cottage (Previously
listed as Gardener's Cottage)
14.6.54
II

House, dated 1712, and though much altered, many of its original features
survive. Coursed rubble with dressings. 2 storeys, 2 unit plan - the
orientation is now to the south but the door and windows have been moved
from the north side of the house, where the blocked-up openings, and a single
surviving blocked 2-light stone mullioned window may be seen. Now the doorway
is in the centre of the south elevation (formerly in the NE angle). The
existing door, in a modern porch, has been cut through a moulded stone
architrave. To either side of the door, on each floor, a 3-light ovolo moulded
mullioned window. Single hipped gabled dormer in roof. Datestone and initials
S over RS above door. Coped gables and moulded stone gable stacks. New extension
is wrapped round SE angle.
