Gates, and side screens, 2 piers. c.1848 by William Burn. Cast
iron and ashlar. Central pair of gates with knotwork base
panels, scrolled mid rails and rails with scrolls top and base,
having elaborate overthrow with cusped central panel containing
the initials, gilded, "JBS" for J. Banks Stanhope, surmounted by
3 pinnacles. Square gatepiers have foliage to the pierced sides
and further pinnacles. To either side are 5 similar cast iron
screen panels, also with pinnacles and standing on ball finials
above an ashlar plinth. At the corners are extruded semi-
circular angles, and single side panels terminate in square
ashlar piers with moulded cornices and urn finials. The sides of
the piers have strapwork and jewelled panels in the Jacobean
taste.
