Early C18. Careful compact design. Brown brick with red dressings and quoins.
2 storeys and basement, 5 double hung sashes in architraves with rubbed flat
arches. Plinth, cambered relieving arches to basement windows. Fine painted
door surround of fluted Roman Doric pilasters flanlked on both sides by rustication; carved consoles, entablature with cornice hood; 'gothic' traceried fanlight.
Moulded brick bands above floors, panelled parapet. Fire assurance sign below
cornice. Early C20 rear extensions. Inside, all front rooms panelled in pine,
some with early painted graining. Contemporary staircase with dado panelling
complete. Some carved fireplace surrounds; and in ground floor front room
a niche with painted ceiling, and painted panels above doors.
Southlands, its forecourt and garden walls form a group with the Barn to South
of Avenue Cottage and the wall to the East of the Barn.
