The contents of page one hundred and thirty four shall be amended to consist of the
following:-

The north wing and part of the centre block of this fine mansion date from the early
C16 but they were reconstructed and enlarged by Charles Goring in 1593, the whole
forming an E facing east. Red brick. Tiled roof. Three storeys. The centre
portion has 5 windows, the wings 1 window each facing east and 2 windows each to
their inner face, those in the south wing being dummies. Each window bay is sur-
mounted by a gable containing a medallion head, though most of these are now worn
away. each has a large projecting bay window of 6 lights with stone mullions and
transoms, those to the south of the porch and lighting the hall being continuous from
the ground to the first floor. In the centre is a porch with 2 storeys above it.
The porch has a round-headed archway flanked by columns and double doors. The columns
are continued above on each side of the first floor window with a small pediment over
this. Rainwater head dated 1728. The south side of the house was refronted by
Henry Campion and Barbara Courthorpe in 1728. Seven windows, the 3 centre window bays
projecting. Brick pilasters with Portland stone capitals flank the projection and
the side portions. Brick dentilled cornice and panelled parapet. Seven gabled dormers
behind this. Sash windows with segmental heads, painted stone keystones over and
glazing bars intact. The interior contains C16 panelling, and fireplaces and C16 and
C18 staircases. A meeting of the War Cabinet was held in the house on 13 October 1918
at which authority was given to President Wilson to negotiate the Armstice. Article
