A former coaching inn known as 'The Crown' now divided into 2 houses. C16 and
C17. 2 storeys standing on a corner site. Timber-framed and rendered with
plaintiled roofs. A main range flanked by 2 unequal gabled cross-wings to
north and south. There is a further small gabled extension at the rear of the
north wing. The long south wing has a jetty on the side facing on to Crown
Lane. No. 74 comprises the High Street frontage. Both cross-wings have
overhanging tie-beams, to the north moulded, to the south with Jacobean
carving. Both have pierced drop finials. Internal chimney-stack to main range
with large rectangular base and 4 truncated shafts. One small-paned sash
window at north end and one late C19 6-paned shop window on south end. Various
2-light and 3-light C19 casements above. 2 adjacent doors with flush frames up
short flights of steps. Crown House is in the rear part of the south wing.
Jetty supported on small solid brackets. C20 door and casement windows.
