House. Late C17, extended C18. Clunch rubble and flint with brick dressings, and
some timber framing with brick infill; plain-tile roof with brick gable stack.
Single-unit plan with rear outshut. 2 storeys plus attics. 3-window front, with
alternating bands of rubble (now rendered) and flint, has storey bands and
gauged-brick flat arches over the original openings. First floor has two 2-light
casements and a narrower blocked window, to extreme right, over the doorway;
ground-floor windows have been replaced by a 4-light (C20) casement. Roof, with
2 gabled dormers, is half-hipped to right and has a stack, to left, projecting
beyond the gable wall. Right gable wall is timber framed. Secondary entrance, to
left, is contained within the structure of Lawrence Cottage (not included).
Interior: dogleg stair, rising to attics, has pine balustrade of shaped splat
balusters and newels with pointed finials; open fireplace with curved
moulded-brick interior; 2-panel doors with bolection moulding and channels in
the framing. Possibly an addition to timber-framed house, the end wall of which
survives within framing of right gable wall.
