THE COMMON
Common Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. C17, in 2 phases, with a later 1 1/2-storey dairy wing to the left.
Timber framed, roughcast rendered with a thatched roof. 2 storeys and attic.
2-cell form. C18-C19 casement windows. Plank half-door to left, half-glazed
door to right. Central axial stack. The left hand ground floor room has a
ceiling with chamfered joists (set flat) and bridging beam inscribed 'FS 1690'
(for Francis Sancroft): this possibly dates the floor structure although the
quality of the framing on the floor above suggests an earlier date. The
portion of the house to the right of the stack is a later addition.
