2/117 Deptford Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Late C17, altered about 1810. Dressed limestone, tiled
roof with brick stacks and coped verges. Two-storey, 8-window
south front. Three French windows and two 3-light casements, some
altered or blocked openings, first floor has moulded string course
and four 2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements and one 2-
light casement; three blocked mullioned casements, hipped attic
dormer. Right return has large 12-pane margin-pane sash to first
floor and small sash to attic, reset half-glazed door to rear
basement. Left return has large 12-pane margin-pane sash to left,
2-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement to rear basement, 4-
light casement to ground floor and blocked sash to front first
floor, small sash to attic. Rear outshut raised to first floor in
Flemish bond brick, early C19 and rear entrance created at first
floor level (house built on slope of hill); central double half-
glazed doors with Adam-style fanlights.
Interior altered early C19 with new entrance hall and stairs with
stick balusters, rear drawing room and bedroom added. Kitchen now
in place of former dairy, flagstone floors and blocked open
fireplace. Early C19 alteration for Mr. Gourlay, gentleman farmer
and campaigner for social and agrarian reform.
