The Forge

Part 2 should be amended to read:-


' House and former forge, now used as workshop. Early C19
with mid C20 rear additions. Colourwashed brick with some
random flint and stone rubblework at the rear. Pantiled
roof. 2 storeys. The house comprises a single range in 2
sections with different roof pitches. The left hand
section is probably the earlier and was originally 2
cottages : 3 windows, widely-spaced 2-light small-paned
casements under segmental arches, one window now replaced
by a mid C20 casement. The right hand section was
originally one dwelling : 3 windows, inset 6-paned sashes
under segmental arches ; mid C20 door and enclosed porch.
Internal stack to each range. Red brick forge on right,
gable end onto the road, now attached to the house by a
short link.'

House and forge. Forge now workshops used by owners of house. C17 core
remodelled in C19 and C20. L plan: forge attached projects forward at right
end. C20 extension to left hand rear. Timber framed with colour-washed brick
face. Pantiled roof. Forge: red brick and weather boarded with pantiled
roof. Front range has varying roof pitches and was originally 2 separate
dwellings. 2 storeys. Right hand section has 3 window range: sashes in flush
frames with glazing bars. Segmental brick arches. Left hand section 3 window
range: casements with glazing bars. Segmental brick arches. Timber C20
entrance porch and half glazed panelled door. Axial moulded red brick stack
to right hand section and similar stack to left hand roof. Interior timber
frame with stop chamfered beams.
