Small Country House. Early C19. White Flemish bond brick with a slate
roof. Two storeys with attic and two storeys. Entrance front: 3 bays
symmetrically disposed. To the centre is a projecting porch which is of a
later C19 date and has a door of 6 recessed panels with a fanlight above.
This is set in a recessed panel with a round-headed relieving arch and
ashlar bands at the level of the springing. The porch flanks are panelled.
At either side of this are round-headed sash windows to the ground floor
which fall to ground level and are of 3x4 panes. Similar round-headed
relieving arches before these and an ashlar band at the level of their
springing which continues around the side. To the first floor are 3 sash
windows of 3x2 panes. The hipped roof was renewed c.1920 and the eaves
were then made deeper and the dormer windows replaced. The present central
raking dormer is of 3 lights, each containing a sash of 3x4 panes.
Symmetrical chimney stacks to either side of 5 and 6 flues to right and
left respectively set in line. To the ground floor at far right on this
front is an inserted C20 single-light window and extending to right is the
wall of the service court which is not included as part of this item. The
left hand side has 3 bays of which the central ground and first floor
windows are dummies. The ground floor windows are round-headed sashes
similar to those on the entrance front and similarly recessed. The three
first floor windows are all of 3x2 sash panes. Recessed and extending to
left is a low 2-storey service wing which has a doorway of 6 panels to far
right with a flat-arched head and 2 glazed upper panels. To left of this
are 4 sash windows of 3x2 panes with flat-arched heads. The three bays to
far left of the wing form a symmetrical arrangement, the ground floor
central window having a high relieving arch above it and the two lateral
ground floor windows also having lower relieving arches. Panelled pilaster
at right dividing this portion from the rest of the front. Three sash
windows of 3x2 sash windows to the first floor and a brick band with
projecting headers below the eaves. Rear: projecting service wing at left,
to right of which is a blocked window similar to those on the entrance and
left fronts but without the relieving arch. To left of this is a cross
window with flat-arched head. Further blocked window to the first floor at
right and a cross window to left. Raking dormer to the attic of 3 horned
sashes each of 3x4 panes. Yard front: red Flemish bond brick, with
randomly placed openings.

Interior: Moulded cornices and wooden chimney pieces to the ground floor
rooms with ribbed surrounds and roundels to the upper corners and panelled
doors, each of 6 panels. Staircase of one flight with a 1/4-turn to the top
and having moulded tread ends. Stick balusters and a moulded handrail
which is ramped at the top and circular, moulded newel posts. Further
flight to the attics with 1/4-turn to the bottom. The first floor rooms have
similar chimney pieces to those seen at ground floor level with fitted
cupboards at either side. Cast iron chimney pieces to the attics with hob
grates of late C19 or early C20 date.
