5/345 Summerhouse and garden walls to
garden east of Ivy House

Summerhouse and enclosing walls, early C18. Summerhouse in north-
east angle diagonally set, ashlar fronted with stone tiled pyramid
roof and urn finial. Half glazed door in segmental-headed raised
bead-moulded frame with keystone and cornice strip over. Coved
eaves cornice. Each side of door, ashlar coped wall splayed out to
line of garden walls with moulded coping and shell-headed niches.
Similar doorway to rear in rubble stone wall with flush quoins.
Interior with fielded panelling. Wall to south is listed with the
The Coach House (q.v.). Wall running east is coped with 2 brick
piers, length returning south behind Nos 71-5 High Street has
shell-headed ashlar niche at left end, and central summerhouse or
privy with moulded flush doorway under broad ashlar ornamental
pediment with curved top and concave-curved shoulders. Lean-to
hipped-roofed room behind with ovolo-moulded blocked east light.
Wall continues south and returns east to rear of No 71 High Street.
From south wall of No 71 low curved late C19 wall behind Mayo
Fountain (q.v.) formerly with iron railing links to south garden
wall, coping ramped up to higher section and ramped down adjoining
house south-east angle, short length of stone balustrade with piers
and carved scroll against house wall.
