9/98 The Black Horse Inn
II
Inn, 1765 extended c1939, red brick with ashlar dressings and plain
tile roof. Brick stacks at west end and original east end. Two
storeys. Three-window original range with flush cyma-moulded stone
mullion windows and leaded lights. Three-light each side, 2-light
to centre over door in flush moulded surround. C20 porch. To
right, c1939 addition has ground floor neo-Georgian bowed timber
porch and 4-light mullion window above. North west rear wing with
mullion windows. Old photographs show gabled front porch and a
small brewery attached at east end. Sale of land is recorded in
1765 to William Catchway and Black Horse is first mentioned in
1768.
