attached barn to rear

Pair of cottages. Late C17, remodelled C19 with later additions and alterations.
Uncoursed limestone rubble; stone slate roof. Pair of cottages, left with short
gabled range at right angles to rear on left continued as barn under different
roof pitch. Smaller to right extended C20. Two storeys. Two C19 casements with
wood lintels to each cottage, one to either side of roughly central
entrance, those to first floor directly below eaves. 4-panel doors (top panels
now glazed to left cottage (Wellbank)) under contemporary open gabled timber
porches supported on octagonal wooden posts. Wellbank has integral red brick end
stacks, right at straight joint with Greystones with stone base. Greystones has
red brick ridge stack to left and former integral end stack to right at junction
with C20 addition. This has casement with wood lintel to each floor. Tall
rectangular window with dripstone to left gable end on first floor and 2
three-light casements (one directly above the other) with dripstones to back
wall of Wellbank. Barn to rear has machine tile roof and C19 casements to garden
side. Interior. Wellbank only inspected. Chamfered ceiling beams to ground floor
rooms. Barn has collar beam roof in 3 bays with principal rafters rising
directly from wall tops. The cottages occupy a prominent corner position.
