Description

CHERHILL YATESBURY
SU 07 SE
10/113 The Old Rectory
II
Shown on OS as Stone House. Former rectory, 1841 by T Rutherford for Rev
W Money, squared rubble stone with slate low-pitched eaves roofs. Two
storeys and attic. Stone mullion and transom windows with small-paned
lights, cross wing to left, then 2-window range of two-light windows
with dripcourse and roof hipped at angle, then, slightly set-back, a
matching one-window range with ridge stack and roof hipped at angle,
this last possibly added. Cross wing has ground floor 1:3:1-light stone
canted bay, 3-light with hoodmould over and attic 2-light mullion window
with hoodmould. Matching 2-window range of 2-light mullion-and-transom
windows with hoodmoulds on west side, then single storey range to north
with two 2-light mullion windows and Tudor-arched doorway, with
hoodmoulds. East front has hipped roof, two ridge stacks, dripcourse
interrupted by 3-light stair-window and 2-light each floor to right.
Wiltshire Record Office has plans of 1841 signed T. Rutherford of Calne,
for addition of the cross-wing to a building apparently still under
construction.
