C16 house with a C17 or early C18 front elevation. Two storeys and attics.
Main Elevation. Stuccoed. Tile roof. Three gabled dormers, modern leaded
casements. Five windows under coved eaves cornice, early glazing bars,
double hung sash, moulded frame. Four windows on ground floor with
bolection moulded frieze and mouded cornice. Central door is flanked by
grooved pilasters. Triglyph and guttae frieze with four trophies of arms.
Semi-circular pediment with ornamented cornice.
Stert Street Elevation. Two storeys overhang, the first floor on carved
brackets. Plinth, Ornamental lozenge patterns in rough rendering. One
windows on second floor, casement with modern leaded panes, small cornice.
One flush framed sash window on first floor, glazing bars.
To Left - Two storey former stable block adjoins main elevation slate roof.
Four casement windows on ground floor. Brick ground floor, upper storey
rendered. One door and one carriage door. One three light window on
ground floor. Now part of the house premises.
The Knowl was formerly one of the places where Royal Proclamations were
read.
