Malting Farmhouse

Farmhouse. Late C16, in 2 phases. Rear wing probably C18. Timber framed and
roughcast-rendered, pantiled roof. 3-cell, lobby entry type. 2 storeys and
attic. 4 windows, C20 mullion and transom casements without glazing bars.
Boarded door. Internal stack, the shaft rebuilt mid C20. Interior.
Modernised, with exposed framing; closely-spaced studding in front wall of
hall. Axial bridging beams in hall and parlour, the joists concealed by
plaster. Cambered open tie beam between hall and service cells. Oak newel
stair from upper floor to attic. Queen-post roof over parlour, one of the
queen-posts and some of the braces missing. Roof over hall has clasped
purlins. Upper part of stack is of unfired brick, an unusual feature.
