Description

LOOE

SX2453 BULLER QUAY, East Looe
857-1/4/3 Pier and quays
17/09/73
(Formerly Listed as:
THE WHARF
Pier and Quays at East and West Looe)

GV II

Pier and quays. C18 and C19, probably 1853; the pier end 1899.
Some vertically-set rubble to earlier parts; some
horizontally-coursed rubble; the pier is shallow-battered with
vertical rubble except for round end of granite ashlar. The
pier and quays at East Looe, together with those in West Looe
(qv), enclose what was once an important commercial harbour
which, at its peak of activity in the mid C19, was principally
responsible for the export of ore and granite conveyed here by
the Liskeard and Looe Railway.
