Teacher training college, now college of adult education.
1899. By T.H.Fleeming and Son. Brick with slate roof, some
ashlar dressings. 2 storeys with attic; symmetrical 9-window
range with 3 windows to cross-wing at each end and 2-window
caretaker's house recessed to right. Coped gables with
kneelers. Windows have simply-moulded frames and moulded brick
sills to 12-pane sashes with small-paned upper glazing; ground
floor has round-headed windows with paired sashes; 1st floor
has elliptical-headed windows to cross-wings; central
flat-roofed dormer with small pediment and small-paned
casement flanked by 2 slightly tapering stacks. Caretaker's
house has hipped roof; 2-storey bow window with cornice to
right of segmental-headed entrance with ashlar architrave,
overlight and sidelights and flat canopy, elliptical-headed
window above has tympanum and sash; flat-roofed half-dormer
has small semi-circular pediment and small-paned casement.
Left return has similar entrance. Rear has large hall wing to
left. A good, well-proportioned example.
