Claremont Terrace

GV II

Terrace of 6 houses, now offices. c1850. Stuccoed brick with
ashlar dressings; hipped slate roof. Double-depth plan. 3
storeys; 12-window range. 1st floor sill course and
modillioned eaves; 2 bays at each end break forward with
chanelled rustication to ground floor and quoins above.
Windows have architraves, those to ground floor have
tripartite horned sashes with glazing bars, those to 1st floor
have friezes, cornices and plaster gables, casements and
cast-iron balconies; those to 2nd floor have eared architraves
and 9-pane horned sashes. No 22 has no glazing bars to ground
floor window; No 24 has no glazing bars to ground and 2nd
floor windows; No 26 has fanlight with decorative glazing
bars; No 30 has casement to ground floor window, small-paned
casements to 2nd floor windows. Centre of 1st floor has plaque
with lettering: CLAREMONT/ TERRACE. Round-headed entrances
have plaster surrounds and consoled cornices, recessed doors
with fanlights. 5 cross-axial stacks, 2 truncated. Rear of
brick with varied wings and fenestration. INTERIOR not
inspected.
