Terrace of 5 houses. Begun 1790, stopped 1793, completed 1838.
By John Eveleigh. Limestone dressings, party wall stacks and
pantile mansard roof. Double-depth plan. Late Georgian style.
Each of 3 storeys, attic and basement; 3-window range. A
raised curved terrace articulated by giant pilasters to a
cornice and parapet; rusticated ground floor to a band. Steps
up to right-hand semicircular-arched doorways have plate-glass
fanlights and 6-panel doors; No.1 has entrance in the
right-hand return. 6/6-pane sashes, and dormers with pierced
parapets. Full-width timber first-floor tented balconies have
wrought-iron lattice railings. Nos 1 & 2 have deeper rear
elevations and higher basements.
INTERIOR not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached front basement area spear-headed
railings and gates.
Intended as a grand terrace, but only 11 started before work
stopped. Only 5 completed to original plan, with Nos 6-11 to a
different design by Charles Dyer.
