Boundary stones at NGR SY 68917322
II
Two boundary markers at junction of New Road and Old Hill.
C19. That to NE is built in to the retaining wall which here
curves round to the bottom of Old Hill; the upper part has
been defaced, and below is the number 31. The root or
foundation of the stone is also exposed. Opposite here, free
standing at the end of the retaining wall to New Road, a
square stone to rounded top with the number 30 to NE and to NW
'This stone removed 3'6" East'. Representative of various
markers, usually to Admiralty or War Department boundaries, on
the Island, and a reminder that for long Old Hill was the
principal means of access to Tophill from Underhill, until the
construction of New Road in 1810.
