House. Late C15 Wealden hall house restored c.1910.
Timberframed, close-studded with plastered infill pargetted on
brick base. Steeply pitched old tiled roof with late C16 brick
chimneystack. The 1st floor of the end window bay on the south
east front oversails on the protruding ends of the floor
joists and brackets with dragon post suriving to right hand
side. The eaves between oversail on curved brackets and a
bracket in the centre. 2 storeys 4 windows. C20 casements.
Four-centred arched doorway. Attached to right of door is C18
lead pump. Rear has later 2 storey extensions and lean-to in
matching materials. Interior has hall open to roof with
octagonal moulded crown post with 4 head braces to collar beam
and curved tension braces to tie beam. Dais beam with about
1/3 of original plank oak screen remaining and spere truss.
Dragon ties. Parlour end has a C16 4 centred arched stone
fireplace with blank shields in the spandrels and a similar
fireplace reported to the chamber above. Service end has 3
four-centred arched service entrances with 2 original plank
doors. Hall has large fireplace of c.1929. The name of the
property is derived from a paper mill situated at the
beginning of the drive way in the C19.
