House. 1812 built for William Beard, Trustee of the
Sir John Port almshouses with late C19 additions. Red brick
with stone and gauged brick dressings, hipped slate roof with
brick ridge stacks and plain stone eaves band. Two storeys and
three bays with central bay slightly advanced and topped by a
ramped parapet. Plain pilastered central doorcase with C20
glazed panelled door and traceried fanlight above. To either
side wide glazing bar sashes with central mullion under flat
brick arches. Above, three glazing bar sashes, also under flat
arches. To centre the parapet has a stone plaque with an
achievement. Late C19 additions to rear. Interior has elegant
stick baluster winder staircase with wreathed handrail, panelled
doors and moulded cornices, plus semi-circular niche to dining
room.
