TL 3517 THUNDRIDGE CAMBRIDGE ROAD

9/11 Nos 23 (Oven Cottage)
and 24 (Wisteria Cottage)

GV II

2 houses in one building. Late C18 built as a pair of labourers
cottages (RCHM Typescript). Timber frame, plastered with black
painted plinth. Steep old red tile roof extending down at rear
over an original 2-storeys, 3-windows house facing E. Central
chimney with lobby entry to No 23. Entrance to No 24 now at N
end. Originally possibly twin central doors opened into the
space by the chimney (RCHM Typescript). 2-liqht casement windows
with small panes. Narrower window over central door. Unusual
late timber framing in which principal timbers are still framed
with wood pegs in mortice-and-tennon joints but intermediate wall
studs are nailed to the frame. Originally no infill between
studs but plastered laths on each face (RCHM Typescript).
