The Lodge
II
House. Late C17 and early C19. Timber-framed and painted
pebbledash with coated Welsh slate gabled roof. Two storeys
and attics with parallel rear 2-storey range with low pitched
Welsh slate roof.
EXTERIOR: front has 2 square double-hung sash windows with
moulded surrounds and square small panes and a similar
narrower central window, all on first floor. Ground floor has
central C19 gabled projecting enclosed porch with coated
decorative Welsh slates and decorative bargeboards. Door has 4
moulded panels and plain semicircular fanlight over.
Similar double-hung sash windows on northern side of porch and
projecting hipped slate roofed bay with C20 metal casement
windows with small panes south. Black painted pilaster strip
on either side and black plinth. Gable ends have decorative
moulded verges and square finial block with urn. Attic windows
in gables have pointed arched heads, to the south with small
pane 2-light casement (north window replaced). Central
ridgeline rendered stack with 6 pots, 3 are square.
North flank has two C20 metal small-pane casements at
1st-floor level and C20 lean-to conservatory. Flat-roofed
projecting bay on north flank with C20 metal casements. Slated
early C19 extension on rear linked to clay pantile gabled
outhouse with short gable-end stack. Parallel rear range has
very large and one small rendered stacks.
INTERIOR: 3-bay timber frame with chamfered spine beams and
lamb's tongue stops. Central stack with entrance passage
'tunnel' under. Length of early C19 staircase to attic.
