House. Early C19. Brick, part red and part gault with ashlared
stucco front to High Street. Roofs, slate, some hipped and
some gabled. 2 storeys. Front is of 3 bays, that in the centre
narrower and breaking forward slightly. Parapet with 3
balustered panels, 2 blind. Cornice with paired modillions.
The outer parts each have a 2-storey canted shallow bay window
with small paned double-hung sashes on first floor, plain to
ground floor. Panelled pilaster strips between windows and
painted timber panels beneath first floor windows. The centre
of the first floor has a 12 paned double-hung sash window set
within a rectangular recess with triple keystone over. Narrow
painted string band at first floor level and above plinth.
Central doorcase set within semicircular arch with keystone
and broad pilasters, forming centre bay of ground floor.
Doorcase has pediment, panelled pilasters and semicircular
fanlight with radiating glazing bars. Door of 6 moulded panels
recessed with moulded panels on flanks. 2 stone steps with
moulded edges. 2 bootscrapers. Row of 6 stuccoed bollards on
frontage linked by chains. N flank wall to passage, of red
Flemish bond brickwork with some blue/black headers and
moulded cornice. Rear elevation (not seen in detail) is part
gault and part red brick with pavilion roof of Mansard form.
Large central ground floor hall. Interior not inspected.
Garden wall to No.7 was listed on 01/11/72.
