Railway marker stone; c.1845. Sandstone slab about one metre high with round
top, pecked sides and S&D/R inscribed in Roman capitals on west face. Marks
east edge of railway incline first engineered by T.E. Harrison and R. Stephenson
for the Stanhope and Tyne Railroad Company in 1832.
