House. Dated 1749 with early C19 addition. Red brick on sandstone
plinth; clay tile and slate roofs; brick integral end stacks and
brick ridge stack. L-shaped house of 1749 to north and rectangular
plan extension to S.W. 2 storeys; 2:1:2 bays; main range of 1749
house to right and its forward projecting wing with hipped roof to
centre, C19 forward projecting extension to left; glazing bar sashes,
those to left hand of C19 extension have 20 panes and stretch from
floor to ceiling, ground floor window of central wing has 16 panes,
first floor segment headed casement to right hand of C18 main range
and segment headed stair window to left over door with lintel
inscribed: "Wm Bott in his Old age Hath Built him an Hermitage 1749";
moulded architrave to C20 panelled door on right hand of C19 extension,
oblong overlight with traceried glazing bars; toothed eaves course to
C18 house and moulded eaves cornice to C19 extension. Interior:
Open well staircase with turned balusters opposite front door. C19
extension has straight stone staircase with iron balusters of square
section and a wreathed wooden hand rail.
