One of a pair of terraced town houses. 1737, the well preserved
interior of 1737-42, attic storey added at same time as that of
No. 35, slate roof. 3 storeys,basement and attic storey. 3 windows
wide. Identical Gibbs surround doorway with deeply moulded cornice
to left balancing that of No. 35. Recessed glazing bar sashes with
red brick dressings and flat gauged arches with vermiculated
keystones. String course, main and attic cornices continuous with
No. 35 as in balcony to 1st floor. Wrought iron area railings with
torch finials, overthrow obelisks removed. Virtually unaltered front.
Well preserved c.1742 interior with front compartment staircase (lift
inserted) but no back stairs on ground floor, because of shallow site,
the whole of rear being taken up by single grand room with pilastered
and pedimented doorcase. On 1st floor 2 rooms and staircase serving
upper floor with partly curved walls, above left hand side of grand
rear ground floor room; all main rooms retain their panelling, marble
chimney pieces and fine compartmented plasterwork ceilings with
restrained Rococo details etc, as does main staircase in part with
plaster panels and reliefs to its walls; wrought ironwork of staircase
balustrade partly intact etc.
