Maltings. Circa late 1840s; partly rebuilt in late C19 (after
1880). Yellow stock brick in Flemish bond. Gable ends and part
of west end clad in weatherboards and corrugated iron sheets.
Gable-ended pantile roof. Long rectangular plan; wider at east
end where it has been rebuilt; kiln at west end. East end
converted and office extension added on south side in C20. 3
storeys. Segmental headed small windows. At lower west end the
tile-hung conical kiln projects from roof with conical boarded
cowl on top. On south side of east end of a 2-storey flat roof
C20 extension.
INTERIOR: kiln and malt store are intact except for removal of
wire floor and inserted steel beam. 9 tie-plates inscribed `J
COPSEY WARE'. J Copsey was a wire-worker and blacksmith in
Ware in the early 1860s. The rebuilt east end has 12
tie-plates inscribed `FREDK HITCH WARE'. Frederick Hitch was a
builder in Ware in the late 1880s.
