Farmhouse. C17 with possibly earlier core, modernised and extended in mid-late
C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; stone stacks with C19 brick shafts;
thatched roof. Plastered rubble and brick rear block with slate roof. South-east
facing main block has altered 3-room-and-through-passage plan with inner room at
north-east end (right of front), outshots to rear and C19 block behind inner room.
Projecting lateral stack to rear of hall and gable-end stacks to inner and service
rooms. Full height cob internal partitions at upper end of hall and on lower side
of through passage. In C19 new front door inserted to new entrance hall and stairs
built in upper end of hall. 2 storeys, throughout. Regular 6 window front of C19
3 light casements, with glazing bars. Plank door to original passage left of
centre superceded in C19 by 6 panel front door with overlight. Both doors have flat
hoods on shaped consoles. Interior is largely result of C19 modernisation but
original layout is preserved suggesting that much of early fabric and detail is
hidden. C17 oak door frame to rear of passage has ovolo-moulded surround and
contains contemporary 12 panel door with iron fittings including strap hinges with
fleur de lys terminals and oak lock housing. Hall has volcanic ashlar fireplace
with replacement oak lintel and ogee-hollow chamfer moulded crossbeams with scroll
stops. C17 oak A-frame roof intact.
