Bank, formerly incorporating residence. Early C20 with late C20
alterations. Free style, with some classical and Arts and Crafts
motifs. Ashlar sandstone and roughcast brickwork with gabled and
hipped roofs, rendered ridge chimney stacks with moulded caps.
Plain red tile roof coverings. Prominently sited corner building
with entrance bay set at the angle between street frontage
ranges, and expressed as a corner turret. South-east entrance
flanked by granite Tuscan columns, supporting a moulded
architrave, pulvinated frieze and cornice. Double entrance doors,
each of two panels. Above the doorway, the segmental front of the
turret with a curved 4 light window with 6 pane casements. A
moulded cornice supports a frieze decorated with relief figures,
below a tapering conical roof with lead finial supporting a
weathervane. Street elevations to East and South of two bays are
two storeyed with attics each with slight jetting to first and
attic floors. Ground floor banking hall has two tall semi-
circular headed window openings, with glazing bar sashes with
radiating bars to upper sash which is taller than the lower sash.
A moulded storey band supports the rough cast first floor, with
squat corner pilasters and advanced 3-light windows with 6 pane
casements. Broad attic gable expressed as giant pediment defined
by moulded storey band and barge boards, the latter with dentil
ornaments. 3 light window to gable apex, with 4 pane casements.
Lower two storey bay continues to north of east gable, with a
canted bay window with 5 mullioned and transomed lights, each of
6 panels below 4 panes. First floor 4-light window with 6 pane
casements. The Bank interior has many late C20 alterations, and
no surviving features. The original ceilings may be concealed
beneath a later suspended ceiling.
