Brick, front wall rendered; rear elevation weatherboarded in part; slate-hung mansard roof; glazed shop fronts with brick-faced pilasters topped with consoles of red sandstone. The house, now sub-divided and altered in parts, is early 18th century in date. Cellar retains large wine vaults and re-used 17th century panelling. Panelled room to rear of ground floor of west end (now restaurant) with reeded Regency fireplace and box cornice. Staircase retains columnar newels and varied turned balusters. That part of house behind central shop retains part of the front wall with windows, concealed behind the later shop front; behind is a panelled passage with moulded arches. Room to rear remodelled in mid-19th century, retains polished limestone fireplace. Shop interiors to east and west shops (Nos. 82 and 86) now much altered. That to No.84 retains complete fittings from its original use as a tailor's, with extensive shelving for bolts of material along the walls, a doorcase, counters with scrolled consoles, and an elaborate wooden ceiling with diamond panels within moulded, dentillated compartments; the central light sports decorative leadwork and a ventilation grille.
SUPPLEMENTARY FEATURES: the shop front to No.82 retains an Edward VII wall-mounted post box.
