House, formerly farmhouse. Early C17 timber-framed building
underbuilt and clad in late C18/early C19 and later C19. Base of
red brick on plinth, part header-bond, part English bond and tile
hung above. Half-hipped old tiled roof with tall brick chimney
stack. Two-storey, three-framed bays; irregular fenestrations,
mainly early C20 casements, of no special architectural or his-
toric interest, but with two late C20 wood-framed casements with
diamond-leaded lights; south (left) end elevation has two early
C19 metal casements with leaded glazing, decorative hinges and
handles, and chamfered wood mullions and surrounds. North-east
front has central doorcase with plank door. South-west front has
most unusual angled projection for base of chimneystack.
INTERIOR has large open fireplace on ground floor with curved brick
hood above. One inch chamfered beams with lambs tongue stops and
original chamfered joists. First floor has cross beams of same
type and the centre posts have moulded tops. Corner posts are
jowled with angled cuts. Original floor boards to first floor
and loft. Roof has traces of smoke blackening possible from
subsequent use of left bay for hop-roasting; some renewed timbers.
Restoration work in progress at time of inspection.
